The People's awardees

The CVM People's awardees were announced at a banquet held at the Hilton Kingston Jamaica on Tuesday under the distinguished patronage of outgoing Governor General Sir Kenneth and Lady Hall.

Those individuals and institutions most admired by the public were recognised and Prime Minister Bruce Golding was named as the most admired politician. The National Housing Trust was awarded the most admired government institution and teachers, the most admired public-service sector workers. Lascelles Chin, chairman of the Lasco Group, was deemed the most admired business leader; Digicel was awarded the most admired company and Scotiabank was named as the most admired financial company.

Other top awardees included Veronica Campbell-Brown, Usain Bolt, Etana, Beenie Man, Oliver Samuels, Food For the Poor, Barrington Watson and Glenmuir High School.

Special presentations

The banquet, which marked the culmination of the CVM Group's celebration of its 15th anniversary, also saw special presentations being made to Lennie Little-White, Abe Dabdoub, Neville Blythe, Michael Lee Chin and Venita Arnold, who were all recognised for their outstanding contribution to CVM during the period. The lifetime award was posthumously awarded to Byron 'Dragon' Lee, OJ.

In his remarks, Michael Lee Chin, OJ, congratulated the awardees for their accomplishments. "You are a splendid example to your fellow Jamaicans and I wish you all continued success in your outstanding endeavours."
