WESTERN BUREAU:

Most residents in Montego Bay, St James were not interested in the installation ceremony for Dr Patrick Allen at King's House in St Andrew yesterday.

When The Gleaner visited several local bars in the Second City, persons were busy entertaining themselves at pool tables and slot machines.

When one of the bartenders was asked how significant the ceremony was to her, she replied:

"I didn't even know that it was taking place today."

"What channel will it be on?" She asked.

This was the general mood of most who spoke with our newspaper. One man, who wished to remain anonymous, regarded the ceremony as unimportant as persons were more concerned with the economic crisis facing the country.

According to him, "this ceremony does not change the price of salt fish, so persons are not tuned in to watch this event".

Meanwhile, John Walker, who operates a locksmith business in downtown Montego Bay, was happy to watch the ceremony.

"I think it is a very important event to watch, especially for the younger generation because he (Allen) was head of the Seventh-day Adventists. It is important to note how he will serve his country but I am glad to be able to watch and be a part of it," said Walker.
