Harbour View's technical director, Waldermar D'Oliviera, says he is delighted at the fact that his club is back at the top of the Digicel Premier League points standings, albeit on goal difference, ahead of champions Portmore United.
The Stars of the East, who last season relinquished the crown to their St Catherine rivals, ballooned to the top of the standings after clipping a defiant Village United 1-0 at home on Sunday.
Portmore, in the meantime, were held to a 1-1 draw by parish rivals Rivoli United at Ferdie Neita Park.
"We played very, very well. We got a number of chances before the goal, but failed to score. But in the end we were able to win," said a pleased-looking D'Oliviera, whose team moved to 44 points, the same as Portmore.
Fifteen rounds of matches are left - another 10 in this, the third round, and five in the fourth round.
"Everybody played good. The goalkeeper, the defenders and the attackers. They are playing really good football," he added.
Excellent job
Harbour View, who entered the round two points adrift of Portmore and two ahead of Tivoli Gardens (39) and Boys' Town (39), were led to victory on a 76th-minute strike by defender Dicoy Williams.
The tall and towering Williams who, along with partner Lennox Wright, did an excellent job at keeping Fabian Dawkins and company at bay, left his position to attend to a Jermaine Hue free kick, taken from near the corner flag on the right.
He was left unmarked in the area and with the imposing goalkeeper Jacomena Barrett at his mercy, he buried his shot from close range.
The goal sent Harbour View supporters into a frenzy as it came shortly after it was announced on the public address system that Rivoli had Portmore 1-0 down at half-time.
"Harbour View have a very good team and a strong club structure. We try to play the best football and look for the best players all the time, and I think this is the principal reason why we are at the top," explained D'Oliviera, when quizzed as to reason behind their number one position.
Good competition
He said all the persons involved with the club - coaching staff, management staff, etc - worked hard and in tune with a similar vision and purpose, but warned that while the club is on top, the league is far from over.
"The competition continues and we hope it continues as it is with Harbour View in the lead. But we know the competition is good and difficult and, as such, we will have to continue working hard," said D'Oliviera.
Meanwhile, Village coach, Mervin White, who looked dejected at the end of the game, said a mixture of poor officiating, a defensive error and missed scoring chances cost his team.
"We came for a win or draw but the officiating was poor. Defensively we were OK, but we lapsed towards the end. We also created a few chances but couldn't convert," White said.
