Six records were broken on yesterday's opening day of the two-day Eastern Athletics Championships at Stadium East Complex.
In the classes Two and Three 1500 metres events, Glengoffe's Crystal Palmer ran 5:06.77, well under the previous mark of 5:11.10, while Margaret McKay of Oberlin did 5:05.19 to beat the old mark of 5:08.5 to account for the records in finals on the track.
Other records were broken by Carlington Benjamin of Morant Bay in the boys' Class Two long jump final. He leapt 6.17m to beat the previous mark of 6.13m.
Javer Bell of Happy Grove (22.32) and Gavin Richards of Glengoffe (21.83) accounted for records in the boys' classes Two and One 200m, respectively, while the day's third preliminary round record came from Morant Bay's 4x100m quartet (46.31).
In other finals, Kenroy Pinnock of Glengoffe (4:13.28), Rohan Simms of Titchfield (4:29.72) and Morant Bay's Alex Willis (4:40.12) took top honours in the 1500m for classes One, Two and Three boys, respectively.
Oberlin's Tasha McKay took the girls' Class One event in 5:29.01.
Christine Bowen of Oberlin (1.55m), Tonique Sobah of Morant Bay (1.50m), Briana Wright of Buff Bay (1.45m) and Sesire Hunter, also of Oberlin (1.24), won the classes One, Two, Three and Four high jumps, respectively.
Oberlin (110), Buff Bay (89) and Morant Bay (86) were the leading teams after 16 of the 20 completed finals yesterday. Today's final day will take place inside the National Stadium.
