Education dynamics
THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM not sure how many persons write the daily editorials, but it seems to me that at least one continually demonstrates, through his/her writing, an incapacity to understand the dynamics of the education system.

I should like to suggest that The Gleaner Company follows Sagicor and pays its employees, especially the editors, according to their performance. I strongly suspect that the delivery persons would receive more pay! If over 20,000 teachers had to share $15 billion to bring salaries to 80 per cent of market rates, what do you think we were getting?

Teachers not to be blamed

I have been reading The Gleaner for about 40 years (I was born in 1958; hope you can calculate my age), and I cannot recall any such attempt being made to blame teachers for the failure of the education system.

I concede that there are teachers who are misfits, but in a general sense, I know that Jamaica's education system is one of the most efficient, perhaps in the entire world, when you consider the small amount per capita that has been spent for an extended period.

I am, etc.,

MILLARD MCLEOD
