Hatfield, Westmoreland:
Just five days after a teenager was killed in Westmoreland, sending shock waves through the parish, police there are investigating another youth's murder.
Shelly-Ann Gordon, a 14-year-old student of Frome Technical High School, was found dead in bushes near her home after she was abducted from her house at Hatfield in the parish on Sunday.
The principal and senior teachers from Gordon's school visited the crime scene yesterday and were visibly shaken by the sight.
"I knew her from she was at the primary level and she was an exceptional player who always showed an interest in getting a transfer to Manning's," said Audrey Thompson, Manning's netball coach.
Held at gunpoint
According to the teen's father, Prince Gordon, all four occupants were at the house at 9:30 Sunday night when a lone gunman entered the premises, held him up at gunpoint and demanded money.
"Me tell him say me only have $300, two $100 and two $50, and him take it."
Gordon's father said the gunman tied him up, forced him to lie face down, and proceeded to tie up two other relatives who were also at home at the time, before escaping with the teen.
After the gunman left, the police were summoned and a search was launched for Gordon. They were, however, challenged by the dark coverage and thick bushes and the search was abandoned.
The search resumed at daybreak yesterday and Gordon's body was discovered in the woods at 8:45 a.m. Her throat had been slashed.
Yesterday, investigators were yet to confirm whether Gordon was sexually assaulted, as they await a post-mortem, scheduled for tomorrow.
Signs of a struggle
They, however, revealed there were signs of a struggle and Gordon's hair was ripped from her head.
"Right now all the netballers at Manning's are saddened by her passing," Thompson said.
A counselling session has since been organised for students at Frome and will continue throughout the week.
