Orange Cricket Club are now the sole leaders in the 2008-09 St James Senior Cup Cricket competition following last weekend's round of matches, which saw them scoring a good six-wicket win over Farm Heights in their much-anticipated clash at the Orange Grounds, in east St James.
In other games on the weekend, former champions Riahs CC continued their resurgence with an eight-wicket win against Granville; while Overton CC defeated Cambridge CC by six wickets.
At Orange: Batting first against Orange, the Farm Heights batsmen struggled and were dismissed for 96. Interestingly, five batsmen in Marlon Mullings (17), Moshay McKenzie (17), Heroy Clarke (14), Shavon McLean (14) and Dennis Thompson (10) all got into double figures but failed to carry on.
Bowling for the Orange team, Kelroy Haughton took four for 25; Rupert Green, three for four and Dwight Washington two for 10.
Victory in emphatic style
In their turn at bat, the Orange CC team marched to victory in emphatic style as they rushed to 97 for four wickets for their six-wicket win. Vinroy Crooks with an unbeaten 64 and Oniel English and Rupert Green, with 17 and 10 runs respectively, led the run chase.
At Cornwall College: Granville batted first and were dismissed for 133 runs as only Mario Dennison, who top-scored with 41, and Dwayne Keane and Andre Morris, with 36 and 23, respectively, got among the runs. Christopher Watson with three for 22, Chester Sterling two for 17, Shawn Findlay two for 38 and Dwight Mowatt two for 34 were the leading bowlers for Riahs.
In reply, Riahs snatched victory in fine style, scoring 137 for two in 19.4 overs. Chachon Chambers and Findley, with unbeaten knocks of 57 and 49 respectively; and Carlington Johnson, with 33 led the way for Riahs.
At Cambridge: Cambridge CC, batting first in their game against Overton CC, batted poorly and were dismissed for a paltry 79 runs as Oral Rankine wreaked havoc for Overton, bagging seven for 18 runs of 12 overs.
In reply, Overton coasted to victory, scoring 80 runs for four wickets. Mickel Pryce top-scored with 23 runs while Lin-val Richards and Esrick Col-quhoun, who got 18 and 14 runs respectively.
