Herbert Morrison Technical, with one of Jamaica's most-decorated junior sprinters, Dexter Lee, will be hoping for a miracle on today's final day of the Milo Western Championships to overhaul Munro College, which hold a 67-point lead.
Lee, who won gold in the 100m at last year's World Junior Championships, a year after winning the World Youth title, is the Montego Bay-based school's greatest hope of whittling away the sizeable lead.
He is the first Jamaican to win the 100m event at any of the junior World Championships.
Sprint-double
However, Lee will be gunning for his first Class One sprint-double title at Western Champs, having failed to add the 200m to his 100m success last year.
Then, he was beaten by his brother, Keniel Lee, who is now at the University of Technology.
On today's final day of the Champs, which will be held at St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), defending boys' champions, Munro College, are currently ahead with 188 points, followed by Herbert Morrison Technical (121).
STETHS were a distant third on 97 points, while Petersfield on 51 and Cornwall College on 28 round out the top five places, after 15 finals.
Despite his class, Lee should not have things his way as Jason Young of William Knibb and André Fisher of Herbert Morrison could spoil the party.
Munro's Rolando Reid is expected to lead the boys' charge in the Class Two sprints, thereby giving his school the hope of retaining its title.
On the girls' side, STETHS were leading after nine completed events, when the first stage of the championships ended at Herbert Morrison Technical School on Thursday. They led the pack with 104 points, just points ahead of Herbert Morrison, which have 95.
This section is expected to be competitive, as both teams are equally matched in the finals; but STETHS could have just what the doctor ordered.
While STETHS will be at home, Class Two athlete Shavine Hodges, a national junior representative, could prove the difference between victory and defeat.
Hampton (37 points) and Grange Hill (32) are some way off the pace.
Sedeita Palmer, Hodges' teammate and Class Two competitor, along with the Frome pair of Stephanie Barrett in the middle distance and quarter-miler Rushell Clayton, are other athletes to watch.
