Combined Campuses and College's spin bowlers Ryan Austin and Kavesh Kantasingh linked up for eight wickets and prevented the Leeward Islands from flourishing on the opening day of their seventh-round WICB Regional Four-day match yesterday.

Sent to bat, the Leewards closed the day on 249 for nine after opening batsman Montcin Hodge top-scored with 65 at the Three Ws Oval.

Omari Banks (45), Tonito Willett (45) and Kieran Powell (36) got starts, but Austin and Kantasingh each picked up four wickets to limit the visiting Leewards.

The veteran Wilden Cornwall (27) and Anthony Martin (0) held on to the close.

Austin finished the day with figures of four for 67 off 29 overs and Kantasingh has four for 78 off 32 overs.
