SPOTTED in ja

In spite of the recession, someone has found a way to bring in a top-of-the-line luxury car - best estimates have its cost somewhere north of $40 million - to our shores. We're not sure of its vintage, but this particular shape of the Bentley Continental GT was pioneered in 2003. Not much has changed since then. It should be equipped with a 6.0-litre, twin-turbocharged W12 engine - same engine configuration that comes stock in the Bugatti Veyron, which has only four more cylinders - which produces 552 hp and makes the car capable of 198 mph. Built on the Volkswagen group D1 platform, it shares some of the same underpinnings as the mystical and ethereal Volkswagen Phaeton. Price when new? In the region of your average Third-World country's budget (OK, that's pushing it), a new GT leaves its showroom for US$179,000 (J$15.7 million) before reaching Customs. Both the Veyron and the Bentley are manufactured by Volkswagen.
