Tech savvy: Printing your own money
Payton H. Wilmott, Gleaner Writer

The HP Photosmart C6280 all-in-one printer, through its duplexer, prints on both sides of the paper. - Contributed Photos

I'm on the grind and back with more great ideas for making money. The response to the first article ('Projecting wisely during this crisis', February 7) was so encouraging, I had to do it again.

One question that I have been asked frequently is, can I come up with a get-rich scheme that doesn't entail purchasing something so expensive as a multimedia projector.

Select a device

You know the process: You need a vision. After racking the brain for a couple of hours, I found the perfect device to shell out the dough. An all-in-one photo printer.

Milking Money

Start a photo printing service that is extremely mobile. Let me break it down for you by first telling you how I came up with this idea. Most persons own digital cameras instead of the old film ones.

The main advantage of digital cameras is that images are stored on a removable memory card that can be connected directly to most photo printers on the market. This eliminates the long waiting period most persons have to go through just to get their pictures developed.

So if you can set up shop at a location where the demand is high (like a tax office, or the passport office), you would be selling photos like hot bread. The great thing about owning an all-in-one printer is that it has the ability to fax, print, copy and scan almost anything. All these extra features equal services that would burn holes in the pocket of the average joe.

Choosing Your Brand

The pros outstrip the cons of the HP Photosmart C6280 printer.

Besides steering clear of super expensive brand names, you'll have to look out for printers that have very dear ink cartridges. Some printers are cheaper than their compatible ink cartridges, which would hurt profit margins. Next on the to-do list is researching if the ink cartridge is easy to acquire. My pick would be the HP Photosmart C6280.

Judgement day

My research on the HP Photosmart C6280 came up with the following.

The good: built-in networking; built-in duplexer, dedicated photo paper tray; cheap print costs; good colour scans.

The bad: slow print speeds, and menus aren't intuitive and easily navigable.

Weighing the pros and cons, I came to the conclusion that the HP Photosmart C6280 all-in-one printer operates efficiently by using the included duplexer to print on both sides of the paper.

Plan of action

We have a great plan and a hunger for money. These two things equal success. Dollars should be rolling in soon after kick-starting this project. All that's left is to watch the plan blossom.
