Western Bureau:

A resolute Duhaney Park sent Wadadah packing from the Flow Champions Cup Knockout yesterday afternoon when they snatched a 4-3 sudden-death penalty shoot-out win after the teams had battled to a regulation and extra-time 0-0 stalemate at the UDC playing field, Montego Bay.

"This is a most pleasing result for us and I like the fact that the players showed a lot of character," said Christopher Russell, coach of the Duhaney Park team. "We are hoping to take the form we showed today into our next game and, hopefully, it will bring us more success."

While no goals were scored during regulation play, the action was nonetheless fast-paced and exciting with numerous chances being created, especially by the Wadadah team. Thankfully for Duhaney Park, they found a real hero in goalkeeper Omar Williams, who made several brilliant saves.

Fierce close-range shot

In the first half, Wadadah looked like grabbing the lead when Jermie Bucknor got behind the Duhaney Park defence but his fierce close-range shot was well saved by goalkeeper Williams. Duhaney Park countered a minute later when the veteran Patrick Beech turned sweetly on the edge of the penalty area but fired over the crossbar.

With time running out in the half, Wadadah created another glorious opportunity when Damian Chambers got into the box and fired a powerful low shot. However, goalkeeper Williams was equal to the task, pulling off another fine save to end the half 0-0.

After surviving two Duhaney Park chances in the 48th and 54th minutes through Horace Wilson, who fired over the crossbar from six yards, followed by Kambani Dixon, whose powerful header struck the crossbar and rebounded into play, Wadadah again took control.

In the 58th minute, Bucknor broke clear for Wadadah but his shot, which seemed destined for the back of the net, was neatly plucked out of the air by goalkeeper Williams. A minute later, Bucknor got another opportunity but his grounder was blocked by the goalkeeper's outstretched right leg.

With regulation time ending without any goal, the action moved into extra time, where Wadadah continued to enjoy the better of the action. They created good chances through substitute Fitzroy Reid, who twice fired wide from close range.

In the regulation penalty shoot-out, both teams converted two goals and missed three, which saw that period ending 2-2 and sending the game into sudden-death penalties. After both teams scored their first penalty, Lessop Love missed for Wadadah and Dwight Gordon scored for Duhaney Park, giving them victory and a place in the next round of the competition.

Other results: Brazil 3, Eagle Strikers 1; Duanvale 0, Sporting Central 5; Humble Lions 1, Rivoli 2; Meadows 2, Albion Mountain 1.
