In light of the current recession being experienced worldwide, I am somewhat bemused by the response of our government.
The most important thrust, second only to establishing alternative sources of energy, should be a rigorous and aggressive recycling policy.
And that old, worn and fraudulent cliche about 'no available funds' must be thrown out in the trash. It must no longer be recycled.
The sugar industry is a prime and sad example of a lack of vision. If there are any viable off-shoots of this industry, then I really would appreciate being enlightened.
The bagasse board project obviously never made it to the implementation stage.
This project designed for cost-effective and durable roofing material, would reduce most of the housing costs and make the National Housing Trust a far more viable entity.
Instead of pumping funds into a new tourism school, the prime minister should be upgrading the programme at the University of Technology at minimal cost and utilising the rest of those funds for research and implementation of sound recycling programmes. That would be money well spent.
I am, etc.,
