Irresponsible statement

Our political leaders must be very careful about what they say in public. I am referring to the unjust statement made by Ernest Smith, member of parliament for South West St Ann.

Smith knows very well that many Jamaicans are very anti-gay and in making the statement that the police force is overrun by gays, it could be argued that he is setting up Jamaicans against the police force. As a member of Parliament, he acted very irresponsibly and he needs to apologise to the police force for for making such a statement.

Also, Smith needs to understand that every Jamaican has the right to live his or her life without fear. Apparently, he is not aware of the abuses that a gay person who lives in Jamaica faces. No wonder so many gays have to be fleeing Jamaica and seeking refuge in other countries.

Adding fuel to fire

I am honestly shocked at such a broad, incriminating statement impugning the police force and those whose lifestyles differ from the ours. Isn't this statement from Ernest Smith inflammatory?

This must add fuel to the already fully engulfed and blazing inferno called random violence which now exists in our society. Shame!

Smith should apologise

In response to an article published regarding the security forces employing a large number of gays, I feel that this politician should apologise and resign from public duty.

I feel his own phobia of the minority population in the force will threaten the safety of the force and further escalate vigilante justice, which is not uncommon in Jamaica. I am not in support of the lifestyle, but feel that whatever one does behind closed doors is no concern of the public.
