PTAs give ban thumbs up
President of the National Parent-Teacher Association of Jamaica, Miranda Sutherland, has backed the ban on the airing of lewd songs on radio, television and cable, implemented by the Broadcasting Commission last Friday.

The crackdown targets the bleeping of content considered sexually explicit and violent, and the increase, in songs that refer to 'daggerin', an aggressive, quasi-erotic dance and song genre.

"It would also be good if other genres of music, such as calypso and certain R&B lyrics, be similarly scrutinised," Sutherland said in a release on Tuesday. "We have been in dialogue with the relevant stakeholders ever since, and are very pleased with this positive outcome."
