Sexual health expo Wednesday
Members of the Health Promotion Team in the Ministry of Education's Guidance and Counselling Unit will host their second National Sexuality and Reproductive Health Expo at the National Arena in Kingston tomorrow.

"The ministry has once again partnered with some of our non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to host what we call a National Sexuality and Reproductive Health Expo, entitled, 'Nuh linga, nuh badda do it, sweep weh sex or make a proper flex'," said Christopher Graham, national coordinator of the HIV/AIDS Education Programme at the ministry.

Promoting abstinence

"What we are trying to do, is promote abstinence among our student population, primarily for students in fourth, fifth and sixth grades, that is, abstinence and safer sexual practices among students between 13 and 18 years of age,"

The health expo will feature a number of educational and stimulating activities.

Graham said the expo would provide age-appropriate information specific to HIV/AIDS, substance abuse and general sexual reproductive health. There will be condom demonstrations, sexual health and sex appreciation workshops, and counselling services.

Graham also pointed out that one of the more exciting aspects of the expo will be the interaction with well-known entertainers such as Tanya Stephens and Ce'Cile.

"A critical feature of the event is the interaction with artistes. We are going to be having rap sessions with these artistes, primarily to empower young people, specifically our young girls, as it relates to their own sexual reproductive health," he said.

Registration ends today. For more information or to register, call the Guidance and Counselling Unit.
