Sex boosts the immune system
Daviot Kelly, Staff Reporter

There are about as many beliefs about the benefits of sex as there are positions to practise it.

Some people swear by sex and are adamant that it's almost as efficient a cure-all as there is in the field of medicine. (Great, like Jamaicans needed more reasons to have sex).

A BBC report did indicate that having sex once or twice a week, can give a boost to your immune system. Doesn't mean if you feel the flu coming on you should get busy.

Plus, helping you 'ease the tension' when you're stressed is pretty much a given. But not necessarily everything you hear is exactly the way it sounds. Flair heard all kinds of stuff, like sex can help clear your sinuses, make some women gain weight (from the 'good juice') and improve your complexion.

Not sure what the medical experts have to say about those but we have found evidence for a few others.

Sleep tight

The oxytocin released during orgasm also promotes sleep, according to research. Plus, getting enough sleep has been linked with a host of other good things, such as maintaining healthy weight and blood pressure.

Happy mode

Ever notice how somebody will be in the doldrums today but come next morning they are bouncing around like Winnie the Pooh in a honey store? How many times has it been because of what happened 'last night'?

Sex reduces pain

As the hormone oxytocin surges, endorphins increase, and pain declines. So if your headache, arthritis pain, or PMS symptoms seem to improve after sex, you can thank those higher oxytocin levels.

For men, prostate gland-related disorders are known to be caused by or become worsened as a result of the secretions from the gland. Regular sexual activity eliminates these harmful secretions.

BUT

A sudden change in the frequency of sex can also cause prostate-related disorders.

Sex with multiple partners is not recommended.

And, of course, too much of anything (yes, even sex) may not be a good thing.
