Think outside the red this Valentine's Day!
Keisha Shakespeare-Blackmore & Latoya Grindley, Staff Reporters

Feel bubbly in this grey empire-waist dress jazzed up with hemline details and waist embellishment. Completing the outfit are the hot pair of pom-pom pumps and pink clutch for extra pizzazz. Racquel is definitely ready to take in a good performance at the Valentine's Day concert with her partner. Not to be outdone, André looks slick in his cardigan, paired with jeans and his sharp brown pointed-toe shoes.

Valentine's Day is that one special day every year when Cupid gets busy. Couples use this time of year as a reason to openly express their love and shower their significant other with various tokens of love. Though there are many theories as to the origin of Valentine's Day, people in Western society may not care too much for its origin. In fact, for many, it's simply the day for lovers to be extra sweet to each other and celebrate the day by wearing something red and white. This year we, being bold, say wear anything but red.

There are a number of ways to celebrate the day. These include dining out, sending or receiving flowers, chocolates, stuffed animals, jewellery, cards, or just simply sharing a love poem with your partner.

If you are starved of romantic ideas this year, here are some suggestions for places to go and how to dress to suit the occasion.

P.S.: Three is a crowd, especially on Valentine's Day and our use of three models is not a suggestion that you should use come February 14.

Hit the beach with the love of your life and have your own party by day or night. For women, shimmer and glitter are happening and with the right combination, you can definitely rock the waves. And, of course, your attire is not complete without those hot shades and a huge tote. For men, linen pants and T-shirts are the perfect pair for the sand. - photos by Winston Sill/Freelance Photographer

Concerts featuring international artistes are a staple Valentine's Day activity. Women can put on their best dresses and go out for a night of romantic ballads with their special someone. Be flirty and chic in frills. Men can spruce up a pair of jeans and shirt with a matching cardigan.

Be creative this time around and have a picnic at your favourite park or resort. In this casual setting, women can go colourful and playful in dresses and, to add a bit of spice, a stylish, yet simple cotton sweater can be added to the mix (left). Men can go easy in a nice pair of fitted jeans with a sweater.

Everyone is trying to economise, and so can you, come this Valentine's Day. Just be your own host and enagage your partner in a romantic night at home, whether over drinks, food or both. Women, you can play dress-up at home in an enticing, sexy but classy dress, making your companion feel right at home. And men, you can certainly sport a traditional plaid or striped shirt paired with comfortable pants. What is critical for a night at home is being comfortable while still looking hot for your mate.
