Good start for Abes
Western Bureau:

Champions Abes (formerly Seba Youths) started the defence of the St James Football Association/Jamaica National Senior League in fine style yesterday, beating Gully Am-bassadors 2-0 in their season opening game at the UDC playing field in Montego Bay.

The Pastor Hugh Solomon-coached Abes, a team dominated by under-19 players, made their dominance count as they secured victory courtesy of well-taken goals by Tennison Jarrett in the first half and Kenneth McLeod in the second.

Abes took the lead in the 41st minute. Goalkeeper Akeil Irons failed to gather a long-range shot and the alert Jarrett fired in the rebound to give his team a 1-0 half-time lead.

In other first round games in the 12-team competition, Melbourne clipped Champions 1-0, Catherine Hall and neighbours Junior FC drew 0-0, Mountain Villa clipped ACES 1-0 while Granville City blanked Fogo 3-0.
