Close to 50 wards of the state housed at the Windsor Child Care Facility in St Ann's Bay benefited from donations made by several women who were part of a getaway trip to Breezes Runaway Bay Resort and Golf Club, from January 27-31.

The idea for the involvement of the women in the charity project emerged two years ago. At that time, head of Travel Dreams, a travel agency, and immediate past president of the Tri-State Chapter of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation, Pattie Mitchell, brought a group of women from the tri-state area to Breezes Runaway Bay for a vacation.

The women wanted to get involved in a charity project and Vice-President at SuperClubs, Muna Issa, suggested Windsor.

The team asked for a wish list and were told the girls would appreciate clothing, toiletries, bedding, educational supplies and other items.

Back home, 10 women decided to personally fund the wish list for the girls.

Liaised with girls' home

Public relations manager at Breezes, Patricia Clarke and Operations Manager, Kenneth Minton were kept abreast of the developments and they, in turn, liaised with the superintendent at the girls' home.

The much-anticipated day came on January 29.

Hazel Thompson, a social aid worker, welcomed the visitors and reintroduced them to the girls. The girls were elated with the gift items.

The women also gave the girls a pep talk, encouraging them to get fully educated and think positively.

The group has promised to return next year to again assist the facility.
