Champion spellers

The finals of The Gleaner's 2009 Children's Own Spelling Bee Competition took place on Wednesday afternoon at the Pegasus hotel, New Kingston. Today we spotlight the top three spellers from a field of 14.

Congratulations to the students and this year's top two coaches, Primrose Swaby, who supervised the champion and the Rev Glen Archer, who coached the spellers who placed second and third.


Loren Ashley, a student of Campion College, representing the parish of St Andrew, placed second in the Spelling Bee competition. Congrats Loren!


Tremaine Dixon, a student of Wolmer's Boys School, representing the parish of Kingston, placed third in the Spelling Bee competition. Congrats Tremaine!
