Frustrated taxpayer
The Editor, Sir:

My husband and I purchased a 'serviced lot' at Caribbean Avenue, Cornwall Courts in Montego Bay, over three years ago. We have built our home on the land and have been living there for the last two years.

Although the lot should have running water, to date we have not received a drop from the main pipe.

The National Housing Trust (NHT) has arranged for water to be trucked once per week by the Rapid Response Unit, and sometimes, for weeks, we do not get any water when the truck comes.

Those times when we are overlooked, we are told our names do not appear on the list of recipients. Apparently someone keeps taking our names off the list. To make matters worse, NHT has not met with all those affected by this lack of service to say when we will be getting piped water.

Getting the runaround

I find this to be a gross disrespect to us and the citizens living there. When we call NHT, they say they are not responsible but the National Water Commission (NWC). When we call NWC, they say it is NHT. This is the run-around we have been getting for the last two years.

Now, I wonder if the parties involved know what it is like when you do not have water to flush even your toilet, much less bathe yourself. The NHT appears to be taking us for granted. We have not received what we paid for and yet, in spite of constant appeals, we have been ignored.

The water pipes are already in place, so what is taking NWC so long to give us water? To my knowledge, that avenue is the only one in the scheme that does not have running water. At this point, we do not want to hear any more excuses from NHT but results.

The NWC's slogan is 'water is life', so are they trying to kill us and our families? How can the rest of non-home owners have any trust in NHT? I am a very frustrated taxpayer.

I am, etc.,
