Nine-day outrage
The Editor, Sir:

Our country is again in mourning. Citizens from near and far are shocked at the murder of the three children and their grandmother in St Thomas.

Are these deaths more callous than the numerous other murders of our children? I think not. What is troubling to me is the general reaction of the nation and our leaders when these deaths occur; as we shall see in nine days.

In nine days, this atrocious act, like the others, would all have been forgotten. Yes, all will be forgotten in about in nine days.

And if, for any reason, the fervour and uneasy passion of citizens calling for the murderer(s) to be bought to justice and be strung high goes beyond nine days, Prime Minister Bruce Golding, or his security minister, will assuaged the nation with another feel-good, new and improved crime plan.

False sense of security

These announced crime plans and/or 'incremental' serious measures against criminals have never failed to calm (or numb) the nation into a false sense of security that something is being done to curb crime.

All would be forgotten until the next time a heinous crime occurs, then the nine days cycle of outrage will resume. Failed leadership equals fail state (FL= FS). We are almost there.

I am, etc.,
