I found Esther Tyson's 'Rampin shop - musical poison' very interesting, because I've always asked myself why our governments, over the years, have never regulated the music industry. This 'free speech thing' is all good and proper, but not when it is causing damage.
I'm not going to single out Vybz Kartel and Spice, because other artistes are doing the same or even worse. When an artiste is going to promote killing his own people, he or she is no different from a terrorist or an enemy of the state (in my opinion).
When a person, such as Mavado, can be shortsighted, dumb or cocky enough to come on stage and pronounce on his conflict with the police, he should pay the consequences, whether he was joking or not.
Clearly, there is a market for these songs. If you go on YouTube and read the comments on this song Rampin Shop and others like it, you'll see what I mean.
I think these songs should be played only at certain venues where the patrons appreciate them and after a certain time at night. If radio announcers need to 'bleep' any song, it should not be played.
I am, etc.,
