WHEN the 102nd Millrose Games gets under way tonight at Madison Square Garden in New York, three Jamaicans - Olympians Vonette Dixon and Sheri Ann Brooks, along with former St Jago High hurdler Natasha Ruddock - will be on show.
In what is a high-quality women's 60-metre hurdles field Dixon, who reached the semi-finals of the 100m hurdles at the Beijing Games, will face the likes of Olympic 100-metre hurdles silver medallist Sally McLellan of Australia and bronze medallist Priscilla Lopez-Schliep of Canada.
Will have hands full
Also in the field are defending NCAA 60-metre hurdles champion Tiffani Ofili of Michigan State University and Tiffany Ross Williams, also of the United States.
The promising Ruddock, with a personal best of 8.13 seconds set at the New Balance Meet in New York last year, will have her hands full as Ofili, with a season-best 8.01 seconds, and the fast-starting McLellan will be hard to contain.
Test speed
Brooks, who competed in the first round of the women's 4x100 metres in Beijing for Jamaica, will test her speed in the 60 metres where the field will include Americans Muna Lee, Bianca Knight and Carmeleta Jeter.
Lee was a finalist in the 100 metres in Beijing while Jeter was the World 100 metres silver medallist in 2007 and Knight was the NCAA Indoor 200 metres champion last year before going professional.
Two other exciting contests on the programme should be the men's 60 metres and 60-metre hurdles.
In the flat, former NCAA top sprinter Travis Padgett of the United States will face the likes of country-man Shawn Crawford and Terrence Trammell.
