At least for one night, the Courtleigh Auditorium was transformed into a version of the United Nations General Assembly.

The place came alive on Tuesday as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade hosted a cultural evening. The lobby areas had booths from many of the participating embassies and high commissions, showcasing the best in food, beverage and costumes. There was also an abundance of literature for the 'average Joe' to learn about faraway lands.

But the real highlight took place on the stage where some of the diplomats showed their 'Rising Star-esque' talent to the delight of their colleagues. Of course, since it is being hosted in this fine island, the Jamrock performers were not to be outdone, especially Yasus Afari and The Tivoli Dance Group. The programme included performances in speech, song, instrumental pieces and dance.

Guests out included St Kitts and Nevis High Commissioner Cedric Harper, Indian High Commissioner Mohinder Grover, Canadian High Commissioner Denis Kingsley, Czech Republic Ambassador Stanislav Slavicky, his wife Binh and son Marek, Patricia Attkisson, Pavel Stiegeler, Marcel and Alexandra Consten, Igor Dorofeev and wife Elena, Vishu Tolan, Alethia Lambert, Norma Harrack and Ambassador Gail Mathurin.
