CAVE HILL, Barbados (CMC):
Jamaica maintained their position at the top of the table when they completed a 51-run victory over the Combined Campuses & Colleges in the WICB regional four-day competition yesterday.
The Jamaicans defended a target of 221 when they dismissed the CCC for 169 in their second innings about 25 minutes before lunch on the fourth and final day of the third-round match at the Three Ws Oval.
The result was formalised when Gavin Wallace had Kavesh Kantasingh, on four, caught inside the deep backward square-leg boundary.
Andrew Richardson was the pick of the Jamaica bowlers with three wickets for 17 runs from 13 overs, Odean Brown ended with three for 49 from 15 overs, Gavin Wallace finished with two for six from 4.5 overs and Nikita Miller captured two for 57 from 29 overs to end with match figures of 10 for 98 and the Man-of-the-Match award.
The Jamaicans, however, were held up by a late charge from Omar Phillips with 32, Jamel Noel with 24 and Kevin McClean with 20.
The victory moved Jamaica to 30 points after they came from behind to beat the Leeward Islands in the first round in St Kitts and in the second round, they took first innings points in their drawn match, which was badly affected by rain, against Trinidad & Tobago in Port-of-Spain.
The CCC remain on 12 points, after they drew a first-round bye and earned a 96-run victory in their first match of the season against Guyana in the second round.
Jamaica had early success when Brown had Ryan Austin caught at slip for four, after the CCC resumed from their overnight total of 103 for five.
Next over, Miller had McClean adjudged lbw and Brown had Khismar Catlin caught at deep mid-off for two to leave the CCC on 136 for nine.
For close to half an hour, the Jamaicans were held up when Noel joined Kantasingh and frustrated the visitors to add to 30 for the last wicket. But Wallace brought the match to an end when Kantasingh pulled a short delivery and picked out the only fielder on the leg-side boundary.
