JGRA, service station employees sign new contract
Service station attendants and the Jamaica Gasolene Retailers' Association (JGRA) have signed a new contract, bringing an end to a dispute between the workers and their employers over wage benefits since the previous contract ended in September last year.

An agreement was ironed out following two meetings between the National Workers' Union (NWU) and the JGRA.

Under the new two-year contract, the island's nearly 2,000 pump attendants will receive a 10 per cent increase in the first year and another 10 per cent increase in year two.

Employees working the grave-yard shift from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. will also benefit from an adjusted seven per cent shift premium under the new agreement.

President and island supervisor of the NWU, Vincent Morrison, says the agreement is timely given the hardships many workers are facing due to the present economic climate.
