Holmwood, STETHS advance
Defending rural schoolboy knockout champions, Holmwood Technical and Headley Cup champions, St Elizabeth Technical, made it through to the quarter-finals after fairly comfortable third-round wins last Friday.

Captain Andre Creary struck 62 as Holmwood lost six wickets in chasing the 170 made by Knockalva in Christiana. Knockalva looked in dire straits at 16 for five until Andre Levy, batting at No. 5, produced an outstanding knock of 81.

Holmwood, too, were rocked early losing the wickets of opener Marlon Pinnock and Takeem Lowe in successive deliveries in the very first over bowled by Andre Kirton before Handrade Hamilton (35) helped his captain steer the champions to victory in 20.2 overs.

Vital contributions

STETHS also made light work of Old Harbour in their matchup at Port Esquivel, compiling 168 after deciding to bat first. Paul Palmer (41) and Maverick Perry (34) made the vital contributions.

National Under-19 fast bowler Richard Simpson then took five for 16 as Old Harbour crashed to 54 all out.

The competition continues today with more quarter-final games, each set to begin at 10 a.m. They are Vere Technical vs St Thomas Technical, Manchester High vs Oracabessa High, Port Antonio vs STETHS and Cornwall College vs Holmwood. Home teams are named first.
