Owen Nelson, coach of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), expressed satisfaction with his team's performance in their exciting, come-from-behind 3-1 win over Mountain View United that launched them to the top of the Claro KSAFA Super League football competition.

"I am happy know that the team is back on a winning road and I am hoping that we can continue this focus that we have got and also continue improving on our game for the rest of competition," said Nelson, following the game last Saturday at Excelsior High School.

Nelson added: "I think our performance could have been better because I thought that we were wobbling on tactical lines and I hope that we can improve and fine-tune how we really approach the game tactically."

The soldiers were led to victory courtesy of a brace from Andre Redwood (42nd, 45th) and substitute Garvey Simms (90th). Troyland Williams scored the lone goal for Mountain View (40th).

The JDF now lead the standings with 16 points, one ahead of previous leaders August Town (15), who were held to a 0-0 draw by Constant Spring (10).

They are followed by Cavalier and Bull Bay, who are tied for third spot with (13) points, this after both teams registered contrasting results. Bull Bay defeated Police National (six) 1-0, while Cavalier were held to a 1-1 draw by Real Mona (eight).

In other matches, Santos (11) stopped Maverley/Hughenden (one) 2-1 and Duhaney Park (nine) beat Liguanea United (0) 1-0.

Powerful shot

At Excelsior High School, Williams gave Mountain View the lead when he fired home a powerful shot from point-blank range past former national custodian, Allien Whittaker.

However, Redwood equalised for the JDF two minutes later when he netted from close range past goalkeeper Damion Bygrave.

Redwood completed his double on the stroke of half-time as he outsprinted two defenders, then rounded the keeper before calmly placing the ball in an empty net.

Five minutes into the second half, Williams came close to giving his team the equaliser, but his 20-yard free kick was spectacularly saved by Whittaker diving full stretch to his right.

Moments later, the JDF's Mario Gordon's close-range header was tipped over by Bygrave.

Gutsy performance

Simms then killed off the contest by scoring in the 90th minute.

"We had a gutsy performance today but goals win games and we got a couple of clear-cut chances in the first half and we didn't put them away," said Jahmiah Pettigrew, captain of Mountain View.

"I think we just have to keep working at it and improve on our concentration throughout the games."

He added: "We need to work on our goalkeeper and also our players, see how best we can motivate them because it is really hard for us now, seeing that we are going through a bad patch."
