Conflict or destiny?
The Editor, Sir:

The appointment of a Seventh-day Adventist to represent the Queen is raising a quite a few eyebrows, but has anyone stopped to think that may be it is time the Church got involved at the highest level?

While the post may cause conflict with his religion and worship, that is not sufficient ground for him not getting such post. What it does is bring an open-minded individual who will not only be guided by the political framework, but also the principles of God.

Just as the prime minister can ask someone to deputise for him, so too the governor general can do on days when he is unavailable. If he does not see his duties interfering with his religion, then who are we to question it?

Despite our individual views, he had an option to accept or refuse the post. One of the question I would ask is: Will he accept being knighted? Only time will tell.

I am, etc.,
