Sgt Pepper dubs it reggae style

A REGGAE version of the immortal Beatles album, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, is scheduled for release April 14, by the American record company Easy Star Records.

A statement from Easy Star Records said the first song from Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Dub Band will be roots singer Luciano's take on With a Little Help From My Friends.

Steel Pulse, Matisyahu, Michael Rose, Bunny Rugs of Third World, U Roy, Sugar Minott, Frankie Paul, Max Romeo and The Mighty Diamonds also contributed to the album, which features the Easy Star All Star band.

This is the third tribute to a classic rock album by the Easy Star All Stars. They previously covered Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon and Radiohead's self-titled album.

"We've focused on re-envisioning concept albums as reggae and it's really important that the source material works as a whole and is not just a collection of songs," said Michael Goldwasser, producer of the project.

Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is the Beatles' eighth album, and arguably the group's best work. Released in 1967, it includes songs like She's Leaving Home, Lovely Rita, A Day In The Life and the title track.

It won four Grammy Awards in 1968, including Album of the Year.
