NOTE-WORTHY

  • Bravo Claude Clarke

It's amazing that you have continually to lead this type of discussion, which leads me to ask, where are the political thinkers in Jamaica?

The businesses of Claude Clarke and Gerry Grindley have been brutalised and damaged beyond repair by politicians who are proponents of "the kind of thinking and attitude that enjoys the instinct to betray".

This is the truth that I have outlined in my recent book, Judas Mentality, giving an outline of my work alongside Michael Manley and how we developed that great mission of the 'Politics of Participation'.

I think you have, by this article, struck the nail on the head. Jamaica needs political thinkers who can match reality to needs and who understand what you have so eloquently written in your article today.

    I salute you.

  • Where no minister lives...

Why are certain roads prioritised to be paved? That's right - paved and not patched.

I wonder why have Millsborough Crescent and Devon Road been paved and a road like Graham Heights is not. Try driving up into the hills, including off the Stony Hill main road and see what is left for motorists to use. The farm roads are not prioritorised but others are. The only answer I can think of is that no minister lives in those areas. So much for being servants to the people.

  • Time to unite

If there was ever a time for Jamaicans to unite across religious and political lines it is now. Jamaica is at a crossroads and unless we unite around the problems we face we will only sink deeper into the gutter.

This is why I support the appointment of Dr Patrick Allen for the position of governor general of Jamaica. My hope is that he takes with him his Christian principles into this high office. I also hope our leaders will identify leaders in communities across Jamaica regardless of the colour of their shirts who will help to unite our people. United we will stand; divided we will fall.
