Shiv tops West Indies averages

Chanderpaul

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC):

The reliable Shivnarine Chanderpaul topped the West Indies batting averages at the end of the just concluded One-Day International series.

Despite playing just three matches of the five-match series, Chanderpaul finished with 139 runs at 69.50.

His top score of 94 came in the final and decisive ODI in Napier when West Indies lost by nine runs on the Duckworth/Lewis Method, to concede the series 2-1.

Highest aggregate

Captain Chris Gayle finished with the highest aggregate of 260 runs, at an average of 65 with a highest score of 135 in the last ODI.

The aggressive left-hander also topped the aggregates in the Test series where he finished with 305 runs at an average of 101.66, to complete a fine all-round effort on the tour.

Ramnaresh Sarwan, with 132 runs, was the only other West Indies batsman to score over 100 runs as Denesh Ramdin with 40 runs from four innings, had the next highest aggregate.

Rookie batsman Martin Guptill was the leading batsman for the Black Caps with an average of 165, after hitting 122 not out on debut in the fourth ODI in Auckland.
