Cable TV is worse
The Editor, Sir:

I shrugged when I read the recent letter to the editor that was critical of the Broadcasting Commission's inability to keep Jamaican radio free from the broadcast of lewd lyrics.

The reason is that what's going on on Jamaica's radio is minor league compared to the sound and visual crassness, lewdness, slackness, vulgarity and plain pornography that most of the local music cable stations broadcast morning, noon and night. All of the slackness on Jamaican cable television is going on while Jamaica has a broadcasting commission that is supposed to set and maintain standards for both radio and cable television companies.

Anything goes

Why am I not surprised that slackness is broadcast with impunity on the local cable stations? One reason is that everybody knows that that's what we as Jamaicans want, so 'give it to dem'. Anything goes.

It is a real shame that Jamaica's cable television industry is allowed to broadcast so much material that is really damaging to the Jamaican people, and especially to our children, and 'a nuh nutten'.

I am etc.,
