I am yet to be convinced that the National Prayer Breakfast, which has been on the national calendar for 29 years, has any lasting effect on the nation.
If the religious leaders are really concerned about the spiritual and moral decline in the nation, why are they having prayer breakfast instead of prayer and fasting?
In the Bible, there is no mention of the spiritual leaders having prayer breakfasts when their nations were in any form of crisis.
National event
Gird yourselves and lament, ye priests. Howl, ye ministers of the altar: come lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God. Sanctify ye a fast; call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land in the house of the Lord your God and cry unto the Lord - Joel 1-13-14. Some other examples are Psalms 35 vs 12; Psalms 69 vs 10 and Isaiah 58 vs 3-7.
Someone has suggested that the event should be held at the National Arena, bearing in mind that it is a national event, but the excuse is, that would not be convenient because of the nature of the event. So the breakfast, it would appear, is the real deal, not a time of sacrifice and real soul-searching on behalf of the nation. Is it any wonder that after that meeting things basically remain the same?
I am, etc.,
