NOTE-WORTHY

  • Thank you, RGD

I had a most satisfying experience with the Registrar General's Department (RGD) recently, for which I am most grateful. On December 18, 2008, from the convenience of my desk, I went on-line and requested three sets of certificates, including birth and marriage, for my parents and myself.

As promised, I received email confirmation by the next day. Since the system seemed to have been working exactly according to the RGD's promise, I never bothered to even call or enquire of the status of my requests, but chose to allow it to prove or disprove itself.

I was more than delighted when two weeks later I received all three sets of certificates, delivered right at my doorstep. Thank you, RGD, for the satisfactory service provided, and at the utmost convenience, too. I am most grateful.

  • Keep GG post secular

The post of governor general has always been non-denominational and highly secular. I hope Dr Allen continues in the fine tradition.

  • Christianity is a plus

I think Dr Patrick Allen's appointment as governor general for Jamaica is an excellent choice for the country.

I'm proud to have him represent Jamaica. He has the credentials in order to perform his role superbly as head of state. Being a Christian, regardless of which denomination, is a plus to his role, not a hindrance.

  • What's all the fuss?

I am in total agreement with the letter writer from the Cayman Islands - the GG should be unattached and more rounded. What is all the uproar about Adventist? The GG is an Adventist, so what? At the end of the day, we become so entangled in labelling and church name that we have totally forgotten our true purpose and responsibility. With the state that our nation is in, we need active, God-chosen individuals.

  • No 'Jewish' Sabbath

May God continue to guide and direct Dr Patrick Allen him in his new position. However, I just wanted to make this comment. The Sabbath is not the 'Jewish Sabbath'. The Sabbath was instituted in the garden of Eden, before there was a Jew.

The Sabbath was made for man, not Jews. I'm not trying to correct Dr Allen because I'm quite sure he knows that. My aim was for those who may have read the article, and are not aware of God's word.
