The firefighter's weary

1 His friends are saying he has grown tired of putting out fires the wife has started through her constant uppity attitude, and so he has moved out of the matrimonial home. She has become a very destructive force, accusing all around him of all kinds of shenanigans.

Who is 'them'?

3 The social upstart, now fancying herself as having arrived, has recently taken up the rather boorish manner of speaking with her constant references to 'us' and 'them'. Well, one matron, fed up with the behaviour, recently told her she was not quite sure who she was referring to when she spoke about 'us' and 'them', but whoever she thought 'them' were, she was definitely one of them. Ouch!

She's watching the bottle

5 As the economic crunch sets in, some are now taking drastic measures to cut expenditure. At least one employer has taken to marking the level of alcohol in the bar, as well as other liquids at her home, to stop the help from pilfering. It was in boasting about it at a cocktail party, however, that she lost 'ratings' with some of her would-be-peers.

Out of touch

6 Many are saying the only ones predicting happy days ahead for the tourism season are those who do not own hotels; or those completely out of touch with reality!

Will there be a refund?

7 Now that there has been a drastic cutback on the airlifts out of Chicago from the promised year that was negotiated and paid for, industry insiders would like to know if there will be some refunds. Or is it a case of more money down the drain?

Whatever the reasons though, most agree that the shocker was in who was named, as many thought the one who was overlooked the last time around would have been given the nod this time!
