Inappropriate message
The Editor, Sir:

During the Christmas holidays, I hunted for a nice pair of shorts for a young adult male. I found some, but when I looked at the message written on the items, I was shocked. I refused to purchase the item with this alien imported message 'Death before dishonour'.

Our merchants should be aware of the subliminal messages that could be relayed to our very impressionable young men who are already living in a very volatile, murder-ridden country.

Culture

Thank God, Jamaica boasts a very low suicide rate, which means that our people enjoy a certain degree of joy within, and can hurdle the many challenges that they face.

Our Asian brothers and sisters have a culture that is totally diffe-rent from ours. Some of their professional people think that if they fail, suicide is the answer to heal their wounded pride.

We already have the 'Dis me and die' culture. Let us not add the imported alien message to our already impressionable young minds.

I am, etc.,
