When I watch the news on television and read the newspapers about accidents on our roads, it often pains my heart and haunts my mind for the whole week. I keep thinking of the victims as my brothers, father or mother. With less than two weeks into the new year, several lives have already been lost.
I firmly believe that drivers' failure to use indicators is one of the main causes of accidents. There was an accident on the main road in the St Elizabeth community of Jointwood each day from January 4-6, with the main charge being that motorists did not use their indicators when turning off the main road.
No-indicator crew
I can recall at least four occasions when, on my way to Kingston from St Elizabeth, I witnessed drivers turning off the main road without first indicating their intention. In one case, my driver had to pull off the road to 'let in' another motorist - otherwise he would have collided with an oncoming vehicle. I am calling on the police to monitor the country roads, on the drivers to drive more carefully and look out for the 'no-indicator crew', as I call them.
I am, etc.,
