Promotions in Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) ranks
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has announced that 129 gazetted officers have been promoted effective December 1, 2008, but the minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, Senator Dwight Nelson, says it is too soon to say how much more this will cost the Government.

Nelson told The Gleaner yesterday that the Police High Command had not yet formally notified the ministry of the promotions.

Nelson, who has responsibility for the public service, said the ministry should receive details about the changes within the next two months.

The JCF announced the promo-tions following approval by the governor general, acting on the advice of the Police Service Commission.

It is believed that five divisional commanders who are now deputy superintendents are among the 129 officers promoted.

A highly qualified sergeant will make an unprecedented climb to the rank of deputy superintendent of police (DSP).

All the promotions will be published in the police force staff orders today.

In addition to the gazetted officers who are promoted, there are reports that 122 members of the federated have also been promoted.
