Amid a sea of white, Dr Anna Law floated in a sizzling, red-hot, strapless dress.
The orthodontist by profession was heralding a new wave in her life, her second 20th translation, 40th birthday, by hosting an all-white themed party.
The sea comprised family, friends and patients all dressed in angelic white to support Law, the glowing exception in the fiery colour.
With a location off the beaten track, the Kingston Polo Club in St Catherine, few neighbours could complain.
Birthday fare
'Fabulous and Forty', as it was dubbed, had music by Renaissance Disco, which, during one segment, attempted to bring 'the Dragon', Byron Lee, back to life.
The party involved some of the usual birthday fare, cutting the cake and speeches from her parents, inser-ting drops of embarrassing childhood stories, the way only parents can do. But they undoubtedly expressed love for their daughter.
"You were a beautiful baby and 20 years later, you're still beautiful," said her father Cedric Law, who proudly boasted. With three older brothers growing up, she quickly secured her place as daddy's little girl.
"This is my daddy. Your daddy will soon come," Cedric Law said reminiscing fondly about his daughter's discussions with her siblings.
Significant persons
Her mother had similar fond memories, expressing thanks to God for a girl at a time when daughters were scarce.
Roses were handed to Law by significant persons in her life to represent her parents, preparatory school years, high-school years at Champion and her professional training years.
The big surprise would close off the official segment of the party, which Dr Law had in store for her guests. Changed into another red dress, this one decorated with red fringes, she proceeded to perform a salsa dance with Osmel Pelecie' Pe'rez. She was once again the centre of attention.
The party went on into the night.
Guests included Claire and Cedric Law, Karl Grant, Ruth Shaw, Sharon Banks, Oberon Pitterson, Marlon Nattie, Grace Perez, Patrick Cawley, Lloyd Tomlinson, Sonia Tomlinson, Germaine O'Connor, Yvonne Cobham, Joyette Hawes, Ian Green, Jennifer Robertson, Ruth Straw, Maxine Clarke, Garth Kitson, Joan Tucker, Radley Reid, Maxine Hale, Leonie Mason, Krystle Hawes, Natelia Weller and Angela Blake.
