Investigators attached to Operation Kingfish and the Mobile Reserve have taken one man into custody in connection with a major gun find at a warehouse in Kingston on Tuesday.
They have intensified their investigations with the hope of making more arrests and locating the destination the guns were intended for.
Fifteen guns, including five high-powered weapons, were found hidden inside television sets.
According to the police, shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday, a joint team, including Customs Contraband Enforcement officers, carried out an operation at a freight-handling company in downtown Kingston.
A white panel minibus, which was about to leave the premises, was stopped and searched. The vehicle was trans-porting large television sets.
Spokesman for Operation Kingfish, Sergeant Jubert Llewellyn, said that when the television sets were opened the weapons were found inside.
Driver taken into custody
Among the find were a number of 9 mm pistols, four Intra-Tech sub-machine guns, a .357 magnum, .44 pistol, two revolvers and a government-issued 9 mm pistol.
The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody in connection with the seizure.
"We are going to be ensuring that all the parties involved in this shipment are really dealt with according to law," Llewellyn told The Gleaner, while adding that more arrests are expected.
Hundreds of rounds of ammunition were also found inside the television sets, said Llewellyn.
