Alaine - File

Singer Alaine is coming off a high after her first trip to Suriname where she performed for over 10,000 people.

She said: "It was incredible, it was just crazy. It was thrilling to know that they knew my music and could sing it word for word."

Alaine will be busy for the new year working on her second album as well as videos for her singles Never Done and For Life with Tarrus Riley.

"I'm really excited about the song with Tarrus, he brought his energy and I think it's one of my favourite songs," Alaine said.

Digicel donates $1m to charity

In its continued efforts to help create a bigger and better future for the children of Jamaica, Digicel has donated over $1 million to the Shaggy Foundation which will support the Shaggy and Friends Concert taking place on the lawns of Jamaica House on January 3.

The concert is being held to raise funds to purchase much-needed medical equipment for the Bustamante Hospital for Children.

"The value of creating a healthier environment for the growth and development of our children has become more and more apparent. With this in mind, Digicel is pleased that it has made the right move in assisting with this worthy cause," stated Shelly-Ann Curran, Digicel senior sponsorship manager.

A monstrous clash

Monster energy drink has partnered with Sting to bring dancehall's hottest acts together in a lyrical face-off.

At the Jamworld Entertainment Centre tonight in Portmore, Mavado and Vybz Kartel will spit venomous lyrics at each other, while long-time nemeses Bounty Killer and Beenie Man will renew their rivalry.

Kimberly Lawson, public relations, sponsorships and events manager at Wisynco, which distributes Monster, said: "Monster energy has come on-board with Sting to increase the pulse as it relates to the extreme Jamaican lifestyle and as a salute to dancehall as a highly creative part of our culture. We see this as a thrilling association and will ensure that while the action onstage is pulsating, patrons can rev up their own bodies with our powerful Monster mixes."

  • Jessica Simpson feeling 'babyish'

    Simpson

Jessica Simpson is "actively trying" for a baby. The singer and actress is reportedly desperate to start a family with her American football star boyfriend Tony Romo after her younger sister Ashlee gave birth to her first child, son Bronx Mowgli, last month.

A source said: "I wouldn't be surprised if Jessica makes an announcement that she's pregnant very, very soon."

Meanwhile, the Come On Over singer has revealed that the festive period has made her become more domesticated.

She said: "My personality is now more stay at home. Right now, I'm doing the Christmas tree and everything. I'm in Dallas and it's fun. Tony hasn't had Christmas in seven years because they have football every Christmas and he can't go home. So, I'm bringing Christmas to him this year. Believe it or not, I like to bake pies. Tony's favourite is pumpkin pie and I haven't mastered that yet. Maybe I'm more of a baker - I like to make cakes, more fattening."

  • Elton John Avenue?

    John

Sir Elton John is to have a street named after him. Councillors in the London borough of Harrow are considering honouring their most famous former resident following a Local Government Network report which encourages the celebration of local heroes.

Deputy leader of Harrow Council, Councillor Susan Hall, said: "We are supportive of any initiative that supports pride in our streets and strengthens a sense of community. As long as local people back the idea in Harrow, we could look at Elton John Avenue or similar to mark the achievements of a true international achiever. I saw Sir Elton in Las Vegas earlier this year and thought he was wonderful. He is a real showman. He came from humble beginnings and it shows that if you have talent and drive, you can become as famous as him."
