MoBay lotto scam mastermind shot dead
WESTERN BUREAU:

Ywo Morle, the alleged mastermind behind the infamous lottery scam in Montego Bay, St James, was shot and killed at Irwin in the parish yesterday.

Morle, who was answering multiple charges of fraud, and under the Proceeds of Crime Act, was to appear before a Corporate Area court. He was found about 8 a.m. with a single gunshot wound to the head.

The 27-year-old's Nissan Skyline car was found nearby with the headlights on. Residents reported hearing explosions in the community on Wednesday night.

Police say Morle had an asset base worth at least $60 million.

Fisherman gunned down

Later, at noon, the police were called to Dudley Kassin Drive in downtown Montego Bay where 27-year-old fisherman Dwayne 'David' McKenzie had been gunned down.

Corporal Camille Tracey, Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) officer for St James, said McKenzie was driving his brown Toyota Corolla car along the roadway when he stopped to purchase an item.

She said it was reported that, before he could exit the vehicle, a gunman walked up to him and opened fire. He died on the spot.

A total of 213 people have been killed in St James since January.
