The Opposition People's National Party (PNP) has criticized the Prime Minister and the Government in general of nepotism, and has called on him for the dismissal of some senior board members in government agencies. It is quite obvious that this government is hell-bent on placing party activists in responsible positions in some government agencies, regardless of whether that individual is qualified for the position or not.
The recent damning report on the Jamaica Urban Transit Company which was made public by Greg Christie, the contractor general, is just one of the many administrative bunglings that is embarrassing the Bruce Golding-led administration. The damning report revealed by Christie stated that some senior board members at the company should be criminally charged for corruption and breaches of pro-curement guidelines. This prompted Prime Minister Golding to launch an investigation into the stated-owned bus company. Such move has set the "cat among the pigeons", with the resignation of senior board members.
Golding, on his political cam-paign prior to the general election last year, was very vocal on corruption in the previous PNP administration. He promised, his party, when elected to lead the government, would be accountable and transparent, however this was not to be. Only a year in office and the government is plagued with shady and questionable trans-actions both locally and inter-nationally. Come on, Golding, the nation is watching you.
