Condolences
Allow me the opportunity to express my condolences to the bereaved family of the late master journalist, Hartley Neita. Jamaica has lost a giant in journalism.
I first met Neita in Porus, Manchester in July, 1979, while on a motorcade with the late Michael Manley. Neita left an indelible mark on me, for his wit, sharp memory, professionalism, and fairness in recording and reporting the news. May his soul rest in peace.

Out of many ...
Obama's victory should cause us to refocus on our national motto, "Out of many, one people".
And no matter how black, under-rated, poor and isolated the person is, he is God's creation with talents and potential and can become the next prime minister, the next president, or the best doorkeeper etc. Let us not wait until a poor blackman, a poor black woman reaches the heights of greatness before we begin to respect them.
See them all as precious, important beings and shower them with love and praise, especially when life is so unpredictable.

Encroaching bush
For months now the bushes have overgrown and hang across the roadway from Kingston to Port Royal. No fatalities have been reported yet, but it's getting there. There have been frequent accidents due to the overhanging shrubs.
Motorists have to be driving in the middle of the road to negotiate the curves and corners. It will take heavy duty equipment to clear the road of these fierce overgrown bush. Will the relevant authorities take a look at Port Royal?

Limited choices
I think the final decision regarding abortions would impact only the people of lesser means in this island.
Whether it is to legalise abortions outright, to legalise it under specific conditions, or to ban it altogether will only have bearing on people who do not have the means to do as they like.
The rich always have options but the poor cannot afford choices.
