HAVING RIDDEN four winners at Caymanas Park on Wednesday, jockey Paul 'Country' Francis is the Performer of the Week.
The 31-year-old reinsman not only won the co-feature races on the 10-race programme, but stunned the crowd into silence by winning aboard one of the biggest outsiders of the year, the three-year-old debutante OUR DEELITE, at fantastic odds of 200-1 in the eighth race over the straight five course.
His other winners were 9-5 favourite FELICIDAD in the second race, MOON DANCER at 5-1 in the sixth race for the Eggie Sutherland Memorial Cup and the 13-1 outsider THEREALPRINCE, who won the Richard Ashenheim Cup principal feature for two-year-olds in a dead-heat with hot favourite NAVAL COMMANDER.
Significantly, Francis is known as the 'dead-heat' jockey, having shared the spoils in as many as six races to date, an unprecedented feat.
As a result of Wednesday's windfall, Francis, who has been riding on an off at Calder race track in Florida this season, pushed his 2008 tally to 26 for eighth spot in the jockeys' standings.
A graduate of the Jockeys' School, Francis started riding at the back end of 2002 and got his first winner, LSC CHOICE, in the Stewards' Room. The two-time champion apprentice had previously ridden six winners on Boxing Day, 2004.
