Wholesome ads
The Editor, Sir:

I wish to congratulate Singer and their advertising agency on their wholesome advertising in 2008. It is my view that their promotions have been decent and exemplary - they have not served to denigrate women.

I urge other organisations and advertising agencies to consider a change in 2009 - a change whereby messages with positive values and attitudes are promoted. It is not only economic gains that should be of importance to us as, if moral values are not passed on, we may not be able to enjoy the economic gains when they are realised.

May we reflect, as we approach the end of 2008, on the values and attitudes taught to us by our foreparents. May we, as we enter into 2009, have courage enough to be agents of change in our sphere as advertising agencies, thereby helping to raise Jamaica to another bar morally. Yes, we can. You can, I can. All Jamaicans can.

I am, etc.,

MARCIA BLAKE
