IT'S TIME that we change the name of that town in St Ann called Discovery Bay. Christopher Columbus did not discover Jamaica or anywhere. Civilised people were living here and everywhere Europeans went. Therefore, they cannot claim to have discovered Jamaica.
No honour
Considering all the atrocities that the Spaniards committed against the people they came here and oppressed, and the subsequent enslavement of African people, there is no way we should be honouring these people.
As such, all areas named after the Europeans should be renamed starting with Discovery Bay and on to Columbus Park (removing of his statue), Spanish Town and that Street in St Andrew, Lady Musgrave Drive (which was built by Lady Musgrave to avoid driving past Devon House).
I'm calling on the Government and parish councils to rename all these areas. This will be the start of the renewal which is needed.
I am, etc.,
